Celebrating the Veterinary Technicians of Harmony Veterinary Center

This year at Harmony Veterinary Center, we are celebrating National Veterinary Technician Week, from October 16th through the 22nd, to share our appreciation for our amazing CVTs (Certified Veterinary Technicians), both at HVC and across the globe.

A CVT provides exceptional and caring healthcare for our adorable patients, “handl[ing] many of the same responsibilities that nurses and other professionals perform for physicians,” according to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AMVA). They’re the person coming in checking on your pet’s medical history, performing diagnostic procedures, getting them ready for surgery, and providing a positive experience for each animal, to name a few main tasks. Educating clients and answering questions is especially important to ensure the pet gets medical support which all parties understand and agree on. CVT Rocio Campos makes a point to do this in her work, explaining, “if I can educate an owner in ways to best help their pet, then I have made a difference and achieved my job.”

Veterinary Technicians can also further their education and career by choosing a speciality. These include:

  • Anesthesia and analgesia
  • Behavior
  • Clinical pathology
  • Clinical practice
  • Dental technology
  • Dermatology
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Emergency and critical care
  • Equine nursing
  • Internal medicine
  • Laboratory medicine
  • Nutrition
  • Ophthalmology
  • Physical rehabilitation
  • Surgery
  • Zoological medicine

CVT Jamie Gartenmann became certified in massage and rehabilitation to provide a unique healing experience for pets at Harmony Veterinary Center. She provides a variety of massages for dogs and cats to heal in a holistic manner. Jamie uses a variety of techniques to relieve tension for each individual animal. This reduces stress, pain, and blood pressure, while improving circulation, energy, and the immune system. Jamie shares the touching impacts of her job: “One of my favorite things is when I am massaging a pet and they give me this very specific look that tells me they know I am helping them and they are so thankful.” The work that Jamie, and all our Certified Veterinary Technicians, do creates a lifelong bond with our clients, two and four-legged.

At Harmony Veterinary Center, we uphold our motto, Enriching the lives of pets and people, by emphasizing nine key principles: friendly greeting, prompt service, advanced and compassionate care, clear recommendations, effective communication, seamless checkout, follow-up care, professionalism, servant leadership, and adherence to the vision and values of Harmony Veterinary Center. Doing this allows us to take care of each and every animal that walks through our doors to the best of our abilities. This process wouldn’t be possible without the talented Certified Veterinary Technicians at our practice. CVT Maritza Orozco-Reyes adds, “it’s rewarding knowing we can make a difference in their care.”
